The Mayor of London has launched a free legal advice service for victims of rape and sexual offences. He promises to launch a ‘pilot’ that would trial run until June 2025. He had tried to launch this previously but faced several setbacks due to the challenges of recruiting and retaining lawyers. The pilot will have two full-time lawyers with administrative support.

Security Concerns At Coroner's Court

Reading Coroner’s Court has tried to tackle security concerns after incidents involving a man with a taser and a "full scale riot”. They have installed an electronic locking system in two court rooms. Usually, Coroner’s court rooms have to be open so that members of the public can drop in at any time.

Calls For New Human Right

A campaign has published proposals for a new human right to live without ‘physical or psychological threat from above’. This comes after drone strikes, air surveillance and developments in AI. Campaigners want to update the current international laws governing aviation which date from the 1940s and 1960s to take into account current and upcoming technologies. The right is being presented to the United Nations and the Council of Europe this summer.

Councils Pension Fund Settles Under Armour Legal Claim

The North East Scotland Pension Fund (representing workers in three Scottish councils) have won a $434m settlement from Under Armour after they invested millions in stock that Under Armour have been accused of making false statements about products. This will bring a seven year dispute to an end and avoid court.

Police Car Calf Collision Pending Legal Investigation

A calf that has escaped from a field was injured by a police car CCTV footage has shown. The managing director of Advocates for Animals (claiming to be the first animal protection law firm) says the firm is working for their client the Humane Society International UK to pursue welfare or driving offences. It is unknown if they will succeed against this police officer.

It is actually illegal to sleep in your car whilst drunk. Section 5 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 states that even if you aren’t intending to drive the car, you are still in charge of it which makes it an offence.
