Miscarriage Of Justice Compensation
The European Court of Human Rights has dismissed a case brought by two men who between them spent 24 years in prison. They were refused compensation after their convictions were quashed. In Nealon and Hallam v the United Kingdom, the claimants argued the UK’s scheme for compensation for miscarriages of justice was “incompatible with the convention right of presumption of innocence because they were required to ‘prove’ their ‘innocence’ to be eligible for compensation”. The ECHR ruled there was no violation. Many lawyers involved are now urging to make the compensation scheme for miscarriages of justice fairer.
Libel Claim Over Trustpilot Reviews Rejected By High Court
BW Legal have sued Trustpilot over defamatory online reviews which they claim have caused them to lose out on work. The High Court have now struck out the libel claim saying the firm had been unable to show how the bad review caused “serious financial loss”.

Legal Action Taken Over FIFA Plans
The Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) has taken legal action over FIFA plans for Club World Cup. They have huge concerns over player burnout. FIFA, without consulting any player unions, have plans which could see some Premier League players being required to play for more than 85 matches in some years. The case has been brought in the Belgian court system.

Easy Life vs easyJet Brand Owners easyGroup
Last year easyJet’s brand owners easyGroup sued a British indie band called Easy Life because their name was “too similar”. They also accused them of using their branding and repetitional damage, as their tour poster featured an orange and white plane, which is similar to easyJet’s branding. They have now announced their name change to ‘Hard Life’ and released a new single.

Elon Musk Drops Legal Case Against OpenAI
Elon Musk had previously accused Open AI of abandoning the firms “founding mission of developing AI for humanity’s benefit”. He unexpectedly dropped the case a day before the court was due to hear the case. The reason is still unknown. He had helped found OpenAI in 2015 and accused them of changing their goals to focus on making money. Earlier this week OpenAI announced the partnership with Apple to boost Siri’s voice assistant which Elon Musk has criticised.
